What Is the PMDC NLE?

The National Licensing Examination (NLE) is the licensing exam of the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC). Passing it is required for a licence to practise medicine in Pakistan, and it applies to graduates of Pakistani medical colleges from the applicable batches as well as Pakistani nationals who studied medicine abroad.

The NLE has two components: Step 1, a written multiple-choice theory exam, and Step 2, a practical clinical assessment.

💡 Breadth across the whole MBBS

NLE Step 1 samples the entire MBBS curriculum — basic and clinical sciences alike. Broad, application-focused MCQ practice is the most efficient way to be ready for questions from any subject.

PMDC NLE Step 1 High-Yield Subjects

  • Pathology: mechanisms of disease — a consistently high-yield subject.
  • Pharmacology: drugs of choice, mechanisms and adverse effects.
  • Medicine: the largest clinical block; common diagnoses and management.
  • Community Medicine: high-yield, scoring and easy to under-prepare.
  • Surgery, O&G & Paediatrics: core clinical coverage.
  • Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Microbiology & Forensic Medicine: the basic-science foundation.
💡 Application over memorisation

The NLE leans toward applying knowledge to scenarios. Practising scenario-style MCQs — not just fact lists — trains exactly the reasoning the exam rewards.
